Leaving Saint-Cast harbour by boat makes the journey part of the holiday. Watch the shoreline recede, enjoy time on the water and arrive ready to explore Saint-Malo’s walled city. It is an appealing change from a beach day, provided you choose a date when the crossing operates.
Is there a boat from Saint-Cast to Saint-Malo?
Compagnie Corsaire advertises a Saint-Cast–Saint-Malo crossing taking approximately 45 minutes each way. Treat this as a seasonal excursion to book around the operator’s programme, rather than a guaranteed daily, year-round ferry.
Check the official route information and the booking calendar for your actual travel date. A Cap Fréhel cruise and a return trip to Saint-Malo are different products, so make sure you select the destination you want.
Where do you board in Saint-Cast?
The operator gives pontoon Z as the boarding point. Follow the pedestrian approach to the pontoon gate, which the crew opens when the boat arrives. Use the official boarding map and the instructions on your ticket.
From Saphyr, plan your approach to Port d’Armor with our Saint-Cast harbour guide. Allow time to find the correct pontoon: reaching the harbour area is not the same as reaching the boarding gate.
Timetables, tickets and the return journey
Confirm the operating date, departure from Saint-Cast and return departure from Saint-Malo. Check the arrival and return boarding points, required check-in time, ticket categories and cancellation conditions.
The operator’s descriptive page still displays seasonal dates without a clearly stated year. We have therefore not repeated them as a current timetable. Use Compagnie Corsaire’s booking website or call +33 2 23 18 24 60 to confirm availability and the price for your day. Check both journeys before paying.
How to spend your time in Saint-Malo
Keep the day relaxed. Explore Intra-Muros, then choose a section of the ramparts for a different view of the city and coast. Leave space for lunch or a café stop rather than trying to see every district in one visit.
Identify your return boarding point when you arrive and allow a comfortable margin to get back. If you add a beach visit, check local access and tide times. A tidal island should never become an unplanned detour shortly before your boat leaves.
Practical tips for a family boat trip
Bring a windproof jacket, water and sun protection. Conditions on the water can feel cooler than on the beach, even on a pleasant day. Keep tickets and return information easy to find, with enough phone battery for the whole outing.
Ask the operator about pushchairs, wheelchair access, pets or other needs for your specific sailing. Boats and boarding points can differ. Check any service messages before leaving if the weather changes.
Back to your seaside base
After exploring Saint-Malo, return to Saint-Cast for a quieter evening by the Grande Plage. For another day’s outing, browse our Sentier des Douaniers walking guide.
Saphyr has two bedrooms and sleeps up to five on the second floor without a lift, with direct beach access from the residence. Explore the apartment and send us your dates to plan your Saint-Cast holiday.
