Pointe de la Garde is a lovely reason to step away from the sand and see Saint-Cast-le-Guildo from a different angle. The Grande Plage and seafront stretch away on one side, while Pen Guen opens up on the other. Add it to a beach holiday for a change of scene, or make it the focus of a gentle outing on Brittany’s Emerald Coast.
Plan your walk from Saphyr
- Reach the Grande Plage using the residence’s beach access.
- Locate Pointe de la Garde on the town map, then the public approaches via Boulevard de la Garde.
- Follow signed paths and return the same way for a straightforward out-and-back outing.
The route planner below starts at the residence’s address. Check its suggested route before setting off and follow any local restrictions; it does not replace coastal-path signs.
The approach is part of the pleasure: follow the waterfront, notice the houses above the beach and pause as the light changes across the water. You do not need to turn the visit into a long hike to enjoy it.
Where is Pointe de la Garde?
The headland separates the Grande Plage from Pen Guen beach. Locate both beaches on a map before setting off: the land between them helps you understand the route and decide where to begin.
Pointe de la Garde is a different place from Pointe de Saint-Cast. Check the destination name when planning a walk, as these two viewpoints are in different parts of the resort.
What can you see from the headland?
Look towards the Grande Plage and harbour on one side, and Pen Guen and Arguenon Bay on the other, with Saint-Jacut-de-la-Mer to the east. Allow yourself time to look in several directions rather than taking a single photograph and moving on.
The tide changes the view, revealing more sand or bringing the sea closer to the rocks. A second visit at another time can feel quite different. For photographs, include part of the shoreline or the villas above it to capture the shape of the coast as well as the water.
Walking from the Grande Plage
The tourist office describes an approach from the Grande Plage via Boulevard de la Garde. Use the resort map to plan your route, follow public access points and respect signs on the ground.
From Saphyr, first reach the Grande Plage through the residence’s beach access, then plan your walk towards La Garde. An out-and-back route keeps the outing straightforward. Walking time depends on your starting point, pace and stops, so leave room to enjoy the view rather than rushing to a timetable.
Combining the viewpoint with Pen Guen
Start with a seafront stroll, head towards the viewpoint and take a break overlooking the water. If you want a longer outing towards Pen Guen, check the public walking route on a map and the conditions before continuing.
Pack lightly: drinking water, suitable shoes and a windproof layer are useful. With children, keep the plan flexible and stay on established paths. For a pushchair or particular mobility needs, check the accessibility of your chosen route beforehand rather than assuming every coastal section is suitable.
Choosing a good time to visit
Clear visibility and manageable wind matter more than a particular hour. A break in the clouds can be enough for a short walk, while a milder day makes it easier to linger. Check the forecast and, if part of your plan includes the sand, the tide times.
Keep back from exposed edges and wet rocks. Use signed public routes rather than trying to round the headland along the foreshore. Choose a route that leaves you with a straightforward return.
