Promenade du Soleil Levant in Saint-Cast: beach to harbour

Published by Saphyr · About the owners and our guides

Between rocks and sea, the Promenade du Soleil Levant offers a different view of Saint-Cast-le-Guildo. This pedestrian link connects the Grande Plage area with the harbour, making the journey itself part of the outing. Choose a short stroll or continue to the far end of Port d’Armor.

Where does the promenade begin?

From the Grande Plage, head towards the harbour end of the beach. The pedestrian route then follows the shoreline beside the rocks. You can also start from Port d’Armor and walk in the opposite direction.

From Saphyr, use the residence’s beach access, then locate the harbour connection on the official map. The approach from the apartment includes stairs: the promenade’s access characteristics should not be confused with those of the journey from your accommodation.

How far is the walk?

The departmental route sheet gives 1.6 km return for the shorter promenade and 2.8 km return when extended to the far end of Port d’Armor. These are out-and-back distances, not one-way measurements or distances from Saphyr.

Use the official map and walking sheet to choose your turnaround point. Time depends on pace, stops and conditions. Leave room to enjoy the view instead of treating the outing as a timed exercise.

What can you see along the way?

The bay changes perspective as you walk. Rocks, shoreline and houses above the water make different compositions, before the harbour introduces boats and a working waterfront to the scene.

For photographs, try both a wide seascape and a view that includes the path. Returning at another time may give you different light and tide conditions. Despite the name, you do not have to visit at sunrise to enjoy the promenade.

Pushchairs and mobility: check the access details

The Département includes the promenade in its accessible-walk collection and describes a smooth concrete surface. That does not mean every approach or every condition will suit every visitor.

The sheet warns of an elevated path without guardrails beside the sea or rocks, and advises against walking it during high spring tides or difficult weather. Check the appropriate starting point, any works and local signs. Supervise young children closely.

Choosing a suitable time

Check the forecast and tides, and choose calm conditions. Respect closures and turn back if waves reach the path. Stay on the established route rather than trying to bypass a problem over the rocks.

The promenade can be busy in summer. Leave room for others to pass, and choose a quieter time if you want frequent stops. Bring water and a suitable layer for the weather.

The short promenade or the longer Soleil Levant circuit?

The name also appears on a longer circuit of around 7 km promoted by the tourist office. That route continues beyond this coastal link and should not be confused with the shorter 1.6 or 2.8 km return walk.

Choose according to your group and the time available. For a first outing from Saphyr, a simple harbour out-and-back keeps the plan flexible.
